Land's End to John o'Groats

The Web Master said, “We need a little history for the Web Site, on how agreement for this ride of Lands End to John O’Groats came about.”

Webmaster needs input!

This is what Pete wrote:

Steve a long time cycling associate proposed that we did the Lands End to John O’Groats ride again. It is sixteen years since we rode end to end. We had been on many long rides together to other destinations. I always countered that the riding is the easy bit. It is the organisation that is the difficult bit. We have to get a caravan driver, these people are rare animals, willing to devote at least two weeks of their time to transport the ‘chuck wagon’ from stage campsite to stage campsite. Just to mention a few more prerequisites, that driver needs to be familiar with pulling a caravan, have a forgiving wife, and to be able to get time off at the same time as we all do. So on another occasion, talking to Adrian, and describing Steve’s regular mentioning of doing that ride again, I said, ”Would you be interested Adrian in doing this end to end - only problem is we need a caravan driver”. We then explored different ways accomplishing without a van. I think we arrived at the only feasible way, that is with a caravan it offers flexibility should we need to change the programmed route, it carries equipment, change of clothes and many other needs. The bikes are lean and mean, we move faster and accomplish more. Adrian suggested Graham a long time friend might agree to do just that. Well the ride is on, keep your eye on this web site for more nail biting sore backside stories of the ‘derri-dare’ cyclist stories on their passage through the United Kingdom.
